Outlive is a groundbreaking manifesto on living better and longer, offering a fresh perspective on aging and chronic disease. Dr. Peter Attia, a visionary physician and leading expert on longevity, challenges conventional medical thinking and introduces a new approach to health and aging. This book has been hailed as one of the most important reads by Steven D. Levitt, New York Times bestselling author of Freakonomics, and it was named an Economist and Bloomberg Best Book of the Year.
In Outlive, Dr. Attia draws on the latest scientific research to offer innovative solutions for longevity, focusing on personalized strategies to prevent chronic diseases and extend both lifespan and healthspan—the quality of life. While traditional medicine has made strides in prolonging life, it often addresses aging-related diseases like heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and type 2 diabetes too late, sacrificing quality for mere survival. Dr. Attia argues for a more proactive and personalized approach to aging, emphasizing the need to act now instead of waiting for illness to strike.
This book isn’t about “biohacking”—it’s rooted in solid science, offering a comprehensive, well-researched strategy for improving both physical and mental health. Dr. Attia doesn’t just tell you what to do but teaches you how to think about your long-term health. The goal is to help you build the best, individualized plan for longevity. Outlive offers insights such as why standard cholesterol tests don’t provide enough information about your heart disease risk, how an underdiagnosed liver condition could be an early indicator of chronic disease, and how exercise is the most powerful tool for longevity. It also emphasizes the importance of personalized nutrition, moving beyond fad diets and focusing on nutritional biochemistry, as well as the critical role emotional health plays in living a long, fulfilling life.
Aging is not as inevitable as we’ve been led to believe. With the right approach, you can rewrite the story of your life, outlive your genes, and ensure that each decade is better than the one before. Dr. Attia’s roadmap shows that with the right mindset and strategies, the path to a longer, healthier life is
