This 316-page full-color paperback, The Holistic Guide to Wellness: Herbal Protocols for Common Ailments, is the latest groundbreaking work by Dr. Nicole Apelian. A renowned herbalist and biologist with over 20 years of experience, Nicole has already helped countless individuals learn how to identify and use medicinal plants and mushrooms for their well-being through her best-selling books. Now, she takes her teachings to the next level.

In this guide, Nicole introduces 45 comprehensive herbal protocols designed to target the root causes of 45 different health conditions. Unlike conventional medicine, which often focuses solely on managing symptoms, these holistic protocols address the deeper imbalances that perpetuate illness. Each protocol provides a detailed, step-by-step roadmap that combines herbal remedies with foods, vitamins, minerals, exercises, stretches, massages, detox practices, and other alternative approaches. You’ll have a clear understanding of what to eat, take, and do—from morning to night, seven days a week—to support your body’s healing process.

Nicole’s approach is deeply personal. The first protocol she ever developed was her own, created after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, an incurable autoimmune disease. Despite this challenging diagnosis, Nicole’s holistic protocol enabled her to not only avoid the limitations of a wheelchair but to thrive—traveling the world and living life to the fullest.

This book is a must-have for anyone seeking natural, effective, and sustainable solutions to everyday health concerns, providing the tools needed to take control of your wellness journey.

About the author:

Nicole Apelian, Ph.D. is an herbalist, author, wilderness skills instructor, TV & Film survival consultant, on-screen TV personality, anthropologist, and biologist. She spent years living in nature with the San Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert, one of the last indigenous peoples who still live as hunter-gatherers. An unexpected diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2000 led Nicole to apply her research skills toward her own personal wellness. She focuses on a healthy living strategy, including deep nature connection and gratitude practices. Through changes in her lifestyle, recognizing profound mind-body linkages, and making and using her own herbal remedies, Nicole went from bedridden to being fully alive and from surviving to thriving. She has helped thousands of people treat themselves naturally by following her holistic wellness protocol, including the use of medicinal mushrooms. In 2015 she was among the first women ever selected for the History Channel’s hit TV show “Alone”. Despite having Multiple Sclerosis, she went on to survive solo for 57 days straight in a remote area of Vancouver Island with little more than her hunting knife and the wild foods and medicines she found there. You can learn more about Nicole Apelian on her website, including what she does daily for MS, and about her online herbal apothecary.

This is the kind of book that helps bridge the gap between curiosity and action. I’d read about herbs before but never knew how to put them into practice. Now I feel more confident giving them a try.

Very practical and well laid out. I tried one of the cold remedies, and it was easy to prepare. I like having several options for each issue rather than just one recipe.

The book feels like a handbook you keep within reach, not something you read once and put away. The remedies are written simply, and I’ve already marked several that I plan to try.

I like that the author doesn’t promise miracles but instead provides thoughtful herbal approaches. The section on sleep support was especially useful, and I’ve noticed a difference since trying it.

I’ve been curious about herbal remedies for a while, and this book was a great place to start. The explanations are clear without being too technical. I’ve already tried one of the protocols for digestion and it worked well for me.
